Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Research Group of Felipe Cava

Project: Peptidoglycan Diversity and Plasticity in Bacteria

Description of work tasks:
We study cell wall biology and genetics in bacteria. We use high throughput analytical technologies to uncover novel determinants of cell wall homeostasis. The open project focuses on a genome wide peptidoglycan profiling in the model bacterium Vibrio cholerae. In the study you will perform state of the art UPLC-MS assays coupled to chemometric tools, live microscopy and transposon-sequencing screenings amongst other biochemical, cell and molecular biology techniques.

The project is based in the lab of Felipe Cava the Laboratory of Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) and at the Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå University.

Qualifications:
You must hold a University degree equivalent to a European University PhD at the time of recruitment. You should be highly motivated, have very good communication skills with senior colleagues and peers and the ability to interact in a team.

You need to have previous experience in analytical chemistry and molecular microbiology, in particular in the development of chromatographic methods, analysis and interpretation of the chemistry and structure of bacterial peptidoglycan samples. Previous experience in manipulating diverse bacterial species including cultivation, cloning, protein expression and mutagenesis is highly valuable. Enthusiasm, the ability for good team work, and a good command of the English language, both written and spoken, are key qualifications.

Other desirable qualifications:
A good knowledge in analytical chemistry (i.e. HPLC and mass spectroscopy methods), different softwares (e.g. Empower, UNIFI) and MATLAB chemometric tools are also particularly qualifying.

Application:
To apply for the fellowship, the applicant should prepare a single PDF (max 5 pages) containing:

  1. a letter of motivation describing relevant experience and research interests,
  2. a curriculum vitae including methods that the applicant has mastered, and
  3. names and e-mail addresses for two or more references, with stated professional relationship with the applicant. Applications should be written in English.

The application PDF should be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

to be received by 30th of August, 2018, at the latest. Applicants may address questions to Felipe Cava, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
